Rainbow Arch Bridge still spans time … and water.

Old Route 66
Baxter Springs, KS
Historical site/marker

Designed by James Barney Marsh and built in 1926, it is the only remaining Marsh Arch “Rainbow Bridge” on Route 66, and you can still drive over it! In 2000, country singer Brad Paisley performed “Route 66” on the bridge for the TLC special, “Route 66: Main Street America.”

The bridge is just a few miles north of Baxter Springs, over the Spring River, and is one of the oldest Marsh rainbow arches in the country. Unfortunately, as traffic increased and farm vehicles got larger, many of rainbow arch designs became obsolete, since they could not be widened. Now, it is on the National Register of Historic Places.
