Billy Goat Tavern

This classic joint was immortalized by John Belushi and crew from Saturday Night Live … and really isn’t that far from the start of Route 66.

Legend (and their website) has it that Greek immigrant owner William Sianis became known as “Billy Goat,” when a goat fell off a passing truck and wandered inside. He adopted the goat, grew the appropriate matching facial hair, acquired the nickname “Billy Goat,” and changed the name of the bar from Lincoln Tavern to the Billy Goat Tavern.

Finding the Billy Goat is a bit tricky at first, it is located under Michigan Avenue. Look for the stair entrance on the sidewalk on west side of the street.
