There, I said it.
I had shipped the renowned Jack Stack’s BBQ from Kansas City for Christmas dinner, and realized that I probably needed a couple more slabs for feed everyone. Luckily, Saucy’s Walk-Up (a favorite of the “Lincoln” film crew) was walking distance from my friend’s house. Owners Tom McCormack and Erich Wolfgang serve up some of the best Q I have ever eaten.
Named “The South’s Best Butt” by Southern Living, they are take away only, although there are a few seats out front of this shipping-container-turned-BBQ-joint. Definitely worth the stop if you are heading down I-95.
Sorry, Jack Stack – Saucy’s wins, hands down. Meaty, perfectly smoked and seasoned, they were devoured. Also be sure to try the pulled pork sandwich – moist, not mushy and the slaw is terrific. The beans aren’t your traditional baked beans, but a multi-bean combo that is tangy and sweet.
