Rock Island Pony Bridge
Dedicated in 1933, this is a brightly painted pony bridge of 38 arches (19 on each side) is a nearly 4000 foot bridge spanning the South Canadian River. The west end was a location in “Grapes of Wrath” starring Henry Fonda, where Grandpa dies and is buried. (The bridge had been there only six years at that time.)
Be careful when stopping to take a picture, as there really isn’t a good place to pull off the road. Luckily, you can see cars coming … way before they reach you!
