Rich and Linda Henry are Route 66 authorities who know what Route 66 is all about and enjoy sharing their memories of the Mother Road with visitors from all over the world. They should, having grown up in the shadow of the celebrated highway. In fact, both of their dads are in the Illinois Hall of Fame in McLean, Illinois. Rabbit Ranch is the Henry’s contribution to their heritage.
In 2011, Rich acquired a 1967 Volkswagen station wagon once used by Route 66 artist Bob Waldmire, who died of cancer in December 2009. He says the car will be displayed on his property, where other large Route 66 memorabilia have found a home.
This was a stop on the 2002 Route 66 Caravan, a 66-day road trip led by preservationist and historian, Jim Conkle. He lead the The Route 66 Caravan from “pier to pier,” Santa Monica to Chicago to raise the awareness of Route 66 and the need to preserve it. He posted more than 50 Hampton “Save a Landmark” signs along the route.
